Upcoming: CGFSSA Movie Night

The first of several Movie Nights hosted by the CGFSSA begins this week with Yes, Madam!, chosen by Jesse Balzer. It will be held in the M.I.R.C. on Thursday, January 16 at 6:00 p.m. The screening will be followed by a short discussion period and pizza. Hope to see you there!

About the film:

Yes, Madam! (1985) is a Hong Kong film about two female cops – one played by former Miss Malaysia and eventual international superstar Michelle Yeoh, and the other played by former World Karate Champion and C-movie idol Cynthia Rothrock – teaming up to find an incriminating microfilm that could put a few high-ranking Triads behind bars. It’s the first (or second) film in the informal In the Line of Duty series released by Hong Kong studio D & B Films. Yes, Madam! has a bit of everything: music stolen from John Carpenter’s score for Halloween (1978), a critique of institutional masculinity (kind of), absolutely pointless gun battles, and an amazing martial arts finale in a palatial estate. Directed by notable fight choreographer Corey Yuen and featuring cameos by Hong Kong filmmakers Tsui Hark and Sammo Hung.
